Meet our Quaran-Team

By Chelsea Hughes

With COVID 19, what I will now refer to as The 'Rona, we all have had to adjust our lives quite a bit. Here at cantiq, we are taking every bit of the Stay At Home order seriously. From closing our store (temporarily we hope) to enabling WFH (Work From Home) measures for all of our employees, our hope is to contribute as best we can to flatten the curve. Thats why I decided to take a minute to introduce you to the womxn behind the scenes, helping make and grow cantiq into what it is and what it's going to be.

Marie (Seamstress)

1. Are you OK?

Yes! Looking forward to doing things outside with friends but I’ve been keeping busy and it definitely helps to stay sane.

2. What are you doing to stay sane during quarantine?

Sewing a lot. Making masks to help people stay safe and making pretty lingerie and clothes has been so gratifying!
**So far Marie has helped us make over 200 masks for you guys, health care workers, the immunocompromised and homeless people in our community.

3. Ok hypothetical (maybe not tho)...Newsom declares Marshall law, Pick one weapon and one resource

I am anti violence so definitely not going for guns even in a state of Marshall law. I’d say I’d be armed with patience not leaving my home whatsoever because... who knows what’s going on out there.
My resource would be all the great people living in my apartment building ready to help each other with whatever is needed.

1. Are you OK?

I had to take a long break this past weekend to be outside in order to be okay. Other work, not this, has consumed me the last three weeks and I had an anxiety attack on Tuesday night which led to worrying and sadness the rest of the week. I was outside all weekend (social distancing of course) just to feel the sun on my face and smell the fresh air. It was lovely. I actually enjoy being at home because I never am, so I'm generally okay with the safer at home ordinance.
2. What are you doing to stay sane during quarantine?
I go on long walks with my dog every day. Just being outside and around nature helps ground me when I'm feeling nervous or worrisome. I'm also taking time to do things for my body like stretching, light workouts, and dancing.
3.  Ok hypothetical (maybe not tho)...Newsom declares Marshall law, Pick one weapon and one resource
Oh this is my type of question. Resource obviously water because I feel like people would be hoarding that and if the water and power get shut off, I have endless amounts. My weapon of choice... I'm fucking people up with duel wielding. Whenever I play video games, I'm always holding two weapons and I feel like I'd find two swords that I'd carry on my back. Literally Michonne inspired.

*By the way, thats Tonka, aka T Money, aka Sir.

Britt (The Seasoning on my Everything Bagel)

*Yep, Britt does it all*

1. Are you OK?

For the most part. I can’t say my mental health is at its strongest right now, but I think a lot of us are in that boat. I’m trying my best to be patient with myself.

2. What are you doing to stay sane?

I’ve been playing a looott of animal crossing - a lot of terraforming my island. It’s been a no-pressure creative outlet when illustration feels like too much. I’m also lucky to have a small private patio space at my apartment that’s been great for getting a bit of time outside.

3. Ok hypothetical (maybe not tho)...Newsom declares Marshall law, Pick one weapon and one resource

A case of red wine and... I’d have to go with a crossbow. Is it a pretty impractical choice? Yes. But does it kinda let me live out my Buffy the Vampire Slayer fantasies? Also yes.
